Sub:- Dowry – No Skin in the Game
Dear Sir,
Am not a Celebrity to address you in direct, but am a Citizen, and you are my Statesman, It’s my fundamental right I believe to post a query.
By now, You might be asking yourself a question, what kind of an idiot I am. When, our Indian Civil Law observe Dowry Prohibition Act, 1961. , then, what’s the point in composing a mail and sending to PMO.
Dowry is Special case in India sir, it got no rules, no laws, or no limits. Indirectly, it decides many people’s lives (close to millions). Yet, we never act upon nor it is never considered as a National issue.
My education never taught me, The Great Indian Dowry System. Unfortunately, Teacher missed The syllabus.
So, I need to meditate and let out my own reflections.
Dowry is next to Fraud of any kind. Simple, Groom gets the upside and Bride (esp. father) takes the downside. In life, given a chance, no stupid (even an illiterate) would not exercise this option.
Yet, we see Millions avail the idea. Why ?
Before catching up details, this mail is dedicated to all the missing girls who got indirectly killed/kicked out of foetus, thrown in dustbins, burnt alive, sucicides and sadly many more such horrible situations.
In my defence, I would start with a thought experiment, which goes like this..
Once lived in a Town of Andhra Pradesh, two brothers (assume Twins) called Ramesh and Suresh.
Like every other Twin, they were grown up together, roam around together,
Studied same school, college and enrolled for same Post Graduate Course.
Finally, got Job at the same company.
Wait ! here thickens the plot. Both of them got married.
Things changed. Wife demands more attention, and the output.
Ramesh is gifted with a Baby Boy and Suresh with a Baby Girl.
Easy prediction, 25 years from now, Ramesh is richer 10 times than Suresh; even though they’re paid equal as per today.
What made the difference ? Suresh lost a Game played with God.
An easy Game, that is played with a Coin (Heads or Tails)
Heads ! you get a Baby Boy and Tails ! you get the opposite (aka weaker sex).
To make the story more interesting, Suresh is a Hard worker and started all his savings from Day one.
Whereas, Ramesh is lazy log, who turned into Gambling as a Hobby and lost all his savings 20 years from now.
Yet, things favour Ramesh more. That Mr. Prime Minister, illustratesDowry is Fraud, and a random event that misled millions.
I have no hope in your system either. Revolution is of the people, for the people and by the people.
Let’s dream, this little math intrigues every Indian Citizen.
Taking pride that we invented Zero is useless, when we use the same zero to screw Girl’s father.
I wish, By now, You know, why many countries don’t follow this non-sense ritual.
